Advises the director of University Residences and the University Dining Services resident director manager on matters concerning service from residential, retail and catering programs. The committee broadly represents the campus community providing comment on the quality of existing services and responds to new initiatives. Shall provide an opportunity for student, faculty and staff involvement in the future direction of Campus Recreation. The following areas will be included in the purview of this council: 1. Serve in an advisory capacity to the Department of Campus Recreation in ways of reviewing and recommending policies and programs for continued development of the Recreation Center; 2. Be a sounding board for ideas/suggesting proposed by the Campus Recreation staff and users of the facility; 3. Promote activities and events sponsored by Campus Recreation Services; 4. Serve as Residence Floor liaisons to Campus Recreation Services; 5. Advise staff of improvements and additions and solicit input for improvements; 6. Advise in developing the Campus Recreation Services fiscal budget request, fees and facility use; and 7: Have the responsibility of proposing to the Board of Trustees and University Administration the program priorities and budget levels for the mandatory Student Recreation Fee and the portion of program budgets that are funded by this fee. Shall advise and assist the Director of the Office of Institutional Assessment and Testing and the Director of the Center for Instructional Innovation. Provide a liaison function between university faculty, the two centers, the University Writing Program, and other ACC committees. Shall also identify and recommend annual priorities for assessment studies and summarize and disseminate evaluation findings from innovations studied through the Center for Instructional Innovation. Reviews the operation of the Counseling, Health and Wellness Centers. Includes reviewing the budgetary allocations and the funding mechanisms for these centers, and recommending changes in revenues and expenditures within the centers. Responsible for developing criteria for areas needing funding, and to assess and prioritize funding to those areas. Further responsibilities include reviewing budget proposals and to recommend allocations of student service and activities fees, establishing policies in regard to 160 funds on behalf of the represented areas, and providing a source for response to student concerns. In support of the university's continued commitment and efforts, the committee serves to improve accessibility by advising Western on disability matters; making recommendations in regard to policy, procedures, capital projects and programs; and addressing other disability-related issues that may arise. The award is intended to recognize individuals, departments, organizations or community members who have distinguished themselves in efforts that have enhanced diversity and multicultural understanding at WWU. Reviews the directions for drug prevention efforts for students, faculty, and staff. Reviews the evaluation strategy and instrumentation to measure the effectiveness of outcomes of campus-wide programs and services. Reviews the activities of each responsible organizational unit for compliance with the Drug-free Schools Act of 1989. Develop and update the university's response plan within the framework set up by the Emergency Response Plan, the Emergency Operations Plan and with direction provided by the President and Vice Presidents. Establish working groups to develop and update specific response guidelines. Review each working group's output and recommend materials to the university president. The primary functions of the committee shall be to assist in the identification and appraisal of program needs, to develop a training policy and the university training plan, to evaluate requests for training from groups and/or individuals, and to respond to questions regarding interpretation and application of the training policy. To create, develop and operate an arboretum on Sehome Hill in the city of Bellingham. To that end, the Board shall prepare and update long range development plans, provide the operational structure and be responsible for the administration of the arboretum in accordance with Inter-Local Cooperation Agreement between the City of Bellingham and WWU. Charged with the annual review of the Libraries' strategic plans. The committee advises and reports to the Faculty Senate and Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs on the Libraries' future directions, including such matters as collections, services, automation, communications within the university community, and adequacy of the Libraries' resources. Assists the campus community in devising and implementing policies and procedures for enhancing student's information skills and periodically report on those initiatives to the Faculty Senate.
