In my third year at WWU, I am currently working towards a major in Communications, as well as a minor in Diversity in Higher Education. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, attempting to cook things, listening to music, eating Thai food and spending time with family and friends. I am also a very active member of the Ethnic Student Center.
People have always been a passion of mine, specifically, how they interact with one another. At Western, I believe we have many diverse groups of students. The problem is that, in most cases, these groups do not interact with one another. This year I want to work to build bridges between these divergent groups. In order to accomplish this goal, I must first work on bringing awareness about diversity to the students. I am also a strong believer that everyone must make an effort to bring people together. Too often, people see addressing diversity as just working with minority groups on campus. I hope to work with the majority population as well, specifically within the residence halls, in an effort to give first-year students a foundation for the understanding of working and living among a diverse population.
I also hope to continue to bring attention to underrepresented diversity-related issues. There are many issues and concerns that are swept under the rug in fear of controversy on and off-campus. If there are any changes you would like to see on campus, or just curious about something, please feel free to stop by and visit me in my office. I always love to meet new people!
