Numerous issues, causes and concerns related to marginal populations arise here on campus, and in the surrounding community. It is vital to bring them to attention, rather than sweep them under the rug in fear of controversy. This is the only way to evolve, and become more inclusive, as a community.

There is also the misconception that diversity means race/ethnicity. I am deeply involved with the Ethnic Student Center, but I also recognize that there are other groups on campus, such as those with disabilities, religious groups, the LGBTQ community and women, that contribute to our diverse population. As an advocate for all, I hope to bring the Western community closer together as a whole.
